Episode 8 – Saleka

American R and B music is filled with a soulful reverence that pays homage to its deep roots.  For Saleka, an emerging Indian American singer and songwriter, those roots blend tradition and a new declaration all at once.  She is the daughter of M. Night and Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan , and was raised on an eclectic offering of music, film, and art. She’s also classically trained musician, and has studied Literary Arts and Music at Brown University. Saleka’s first single and video titled “Clarity” was released recently and a new single is due in November.  Saleka is proud to use her voice and lyrics to raise awareness for social justice reform, youth education and women’s rights. We caught up recently and chatted about music, as both comforting and inspiring.
