It’s not every day that you meet someone whose mom is a descendant of Sam Houston, who also happens to be a South Asian American, who also is running for a congressional seat in the heart of Texas. But that’s exactly what happened as I met today’s guest, Sri Preston Kulkarni. Sri was raised in Houston, Texas in a middle class family, and faced the challenge of his immigrant father’s passing from leukemia when he was just a teenager. He has spent his subsequent years in public service as a US Senate adviser and as a foreign service officer, making meaningful contributions both domestically and abroad. Sri is now the 2020 democratic nominee for a Congressional seat in Texas’ 22nd district.
